Still under active development, Making Good is an app for home improvement DIYers who want sustainable options for their home improvement project. Users create a project on the app and receive a sustainability score and project suggestions.

  • Research – User Interview Insights

Conducting seven user interviews with sustainability-minded DIYers yielded six insights about the DIY project research process and users’ intentions around sustainability. The Making Good app is focusing on users’ lack of awareness around sustainable options and overwhelm when researching a project.

  • HMW Statements

Playing off the gathered insights, how might we statements started off with a broad scope. I incorporated the Kano model to distinguish between must-have, performance, and attractive features. This narrowed down my HMW statements to focusing on lack of awareness around sustainability and research overwhelm.

  • User Personas

Two primary personas and one secondary persona emerged from the interview data analysis. I emphasized behavioral characteristics rather than purely demographic characteristics.

“Obviously, we can't do everything. But if we have the opportunity to connect ourselves with things not directly tethered to our lives, it not only makes a bigger impact on the world, but it makes a bigger impact on us because we feel like we're part of something.”- Interviewee #5

  • Wireframes

Iteration during the wireframing phase was key to stripping out nonessential features for the MVP flow, even if those features may be added in the future.

More to come, currently testing first round of high fidelity prototypes.
